NON-DESTRUCTIVE TESTING
Check with magnetic particle method
The magnetic particle examination is performed on ferromagnetic materials.
The magnetic field created by the instrumentation (yoke, probes, coils etc.) along with the magnetic particles show any external or sub-external signs.
The operator must have at least a qualification at Level 1 EN 473 or SNT-TC-1A.
The staff involved in assessing the examination conducted must be qualified to EN 473 or SNT-TC-1A Level 2
Check with penetrant fluid method
This method is applied on ferrous materials and not, as long as the treated surface is not porous.
The procedure of the method provides that after a thorough cleaning of the piece to be examined is applied a layer of penetrating (spray application, dipping etc.). Once you have act the penetrating liquid, the redundant substance will be removed and will be applied what is called “the Detector” (white liquid applied with the same application method of the penetrant). As a result of capillary action, the penetrant (which is usually red) will contrast the liquid detector facilitating the task of the operator to detect any signs.
Check with ultrasonic method
Ultrasound examination is a volumetric control that uses ultrasonic waves.
Due to various types of probe, the machinery used in this method emits ultrasonic waves which spread through the entire thickness of the workpiece examined and detect the exact position of the indication or defect. This is highlighted in the display of machinery with peaks that go beyond the presets set by the operator.
Radiographic controls (out-sourcing)
The x-ray is a method used by many companies for the control of welds, pressure vessels, valves etc.
This method is used in various industrial fields because it guarantees high accuracy on the structure, position and nature of the defect or indication.
Radiographic examination is carried out within bunkers specially built by companies that apply this method.
The sheet obtained will be examined by qualified personnel, which will give the result based on criteria of acceptability established by standards or customer specifications.
